Grammy Award-winning composer Kaija Saariaho's work, Innocence, is coming to the San Francisco Opera for its American premiere this summer. Created in 2018, Saariaho teamed up with Finnish libretto Sofi Oksanen to explore deep into the depths of family secrets, drama, and tragedy. Clement Mao-Takacs, a specialist in Saariaho's work, will be conducting a host of international actors and singers, who will perform the work in multiple languages. Christoper Alden's stylish production of Handel's outstanding romantic comedy returns to the War Memorial Opera House for the 2023/24 season. Once again transporting the action from ancient Naples to the modish Paris of the Jazz Age, as inspired by the work of Man Ray. Julie Fuchs makes her San Francisco Opera debut as the titular Partenope, alongside her suitors: Daniela Mack as Rosmira, Carlo Vistoli as Arsace, Nicholas Tamanga as Armindo and Alek Shrader as Emilio.

The War Memorial Opera House was built and opened in 1932, providing a home for the San Francisco Ballet from its earliest days and was at the time, the largest and most technologically advanced in the United States. The venue underwent a huge renovation following the cataclysmic 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake and now boasts a modern yet luxurious interior, with disability access and various bars and booths for patrons to use during intermissions, making it both a local and international landmark in the world of theater.
