Built originally from wood and plaster for the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition, the Palace of Fine Arts is one of San Francisco's most beloved landmarks in its serene setting in the Marina District. Intended to evoke the same romantic ideals as tranquil Roman ruins by its creator Bernard Maybeck, it was refurbished in the 1960s and boasts Classical Revival architecture including its famous rotunda that stands 162 feet tall and a reflecting pool that offers a sense of peace and a beautiful home for many creatures including ducks, swans and turtles. The theatre has a capacity of 1,000 and hosts various entertainments including comedy, concerts, lectures and more. A symbol of the city's resilience and commitment to the arts, it is a monument to the nature of artistic achievement and community pride.
