Why See San Francisco Symphony - Mahler's Fifth?

Beauty Truth and Love

In a season that includes Mahler's 3rd and 4th movements, it is only right that his most popular should follow. Often seen as the composer's masterpiece, it is a tremendous achievement from the opening trumpet tones.

Written in the serene surroundings of his Austrian country house, Mahler's 5th has gorgeous emotional scope as it takes us on a journey that touches on drama, beauty, mourning and eventual triumph as detailed in its fantasic climax.

Alongside MTT, Violinist Gil Shaham makes an appearance with a recital of Berg's Violin Concerto.
