As You Like It

As You Like It at San Francisco Playhouse

Why see As You Like It?

Fantastical forest frolics in As You Like it!

This holiday season the San Francisco Playhouse stages this riotous new musical adaptation of The Bard's classic comedy As You Like It by Shania Taub and Laurie Woolery. Whisking audiences away to the verdant magical forest of Arden, expect a whirlwind of madcap romance, transformation, witty wordplay, and mellifluous music!

Directed by Bill English with musical direction from Dave Dobrusky and choreography by Nicole Helfer.

What is the story?

Courtly intrigue spills out into the natural world when the Duke Senior is ousted by his brother Duke Frederick and banished to the Forest of Arden along with his nobleman. Allowed to remain at court, Senior's daughter Rosalind incurs Frederick's wrath and escapes to the forest with Frederick's own daughter Celia. Disguised as a man, Rosalind becomes ensnared in a web of love and longing when she meets the handsome courtier Orlando, who has himself found refuge in the forest following an attempt on his life.

Christmas gift

My wife and I got the best gift for Christmas. Our daughter, her husband and son got us tickets. To top it off, she ended up coming with us! We had a great brunch at Mason Cafe. I recommend the Bloody Mary, with anything. Now onto the show. It was a sold out show of 250. At first I was not so sure, but after a few musical numbers, I was totally "in". Oh did I mention it was done in a musical format? Totally engaging! If you are a fan of Shakespeare, you will not be disappointed, nor would he. If you like musicals, the numbers, especially the "rap" numbers will thrill you. Don't be offended by the rap label. You just need to see, and hear to be thrilled. So sorry to go on so long. If you have the time, and the inclination, check it out. After all "All the worlds a stage". ... Read more
