Broadway star Jefferson Mays plays 50 parts in Berkeley Rep's fabulous retelling of Dickens' classic tale
Virtuoso performer Jefferson Mays (A Gentleman's Guide To Love and Murder) turns his talents to Dickens this holiday season as he takes on 50 roles in this ingenious retelling of Charles Dickens' Christmas classic, written by Mays, Susan Lyons, and Michael Arden, with direction by Barry Edelstein. So join Scrooge as he settles down for a sleepless Christmas Eve, where he'll be shown the error of his ways and discover the true meaning of the season.
First published in 1843, Charles Dickens' cautionary Christmas tale follows the story of miserly businessman Ebenezer Scrooge as he ignores the merriment lighting up the cold streets of Victorian London. Unflinching in his attitude that Christmas is just another day, he's in for the fright of his life as he settles down to sleep on Christmas Eve. Awoken by the ire of three spirits, Scrooge is then shown glimpses into his past, present, and future. Will he continue to eschew his fellow man, or will he change his ways? We all know the end, but it's the getting there that matters. With Mays in the driving seat, we're sure this will be one memorable evening for all involved!
