The Mother F***ker with the Hat

Why see The Mother F***ker with the Hat?

Love is the drug

After the success of their Macbeth, Four Lost Souls turn their talents to Stephen Adley Guirgis' dark New York City comedy. Focusing on the story of ex-drug dealer Jackie and his attempts to play it straight after a stint in prison, The Motherf***ker with the Hat is a witty and sharp look at love, drugs and what it takes to score the former and overcome the latter.

First appearing on Broadway in 2011 and starring Chris Rock in his Great White Way debut, Adley Guirgis' play scooped six Tony Award nominations that year, including best play. Byron Haigh, Sandy Sojo, Bobby Foster, Janelle Jacoban and Carlos Reyes Hailey bring this production to life on the West Coast, directed by Beverly Hills Playhouse's own Peter Allas.

What is it about?

Jackie is free from prison and looking to get his life together. However, his sobriety is soon in danger with a visit to his childhood sweethearts, the cocaine-addled Veronica, and realises she might not have stayed as true to him as she claims. Angry and betrayed, he storms out to his drug counsellor - the smooth talking Ralph - for advice. But Ralph is hiding something and his wife Victoria seems desperate to get into bed with Jackie. Navigating the world outside soon becomes as difficult as life inside for the unfortunate Jackie, who must find away out of this mess or risk heading back to the big house for a far longer stretch.
