An Indie Icon

As a member of The Smiths, Johnny Marr has secured his place in the history books. Alongside be-quiffed frontman Morrissey, he co-wrote some of the greatest songs of the 1980s and his jangly guitars set the tone for all indie hopefuls who followed. Since the band's messy (and perhaps accidental) dissolution in 1987, Marr has continued to push his music in new and interesting directions, from collaborating with Bernard Summer in the dance orientated Electronic to joining alternative rock greats Modest Mouse.

Recently, Marr has tried his hand at going solo. His first album of poppy, jangly goodness The Messenger was released in 2013 and his second, the more muscular Playland, followed a year later.
