This year, the Greater Bay Area's most talented young musicians are given a chance to hone their budding skills as part of the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra, one of the finest youth ensembles in the country, if not the world.  Make no mistake: the SFSYO’s performances are every bit as ambitious as those of a professional orchestra, with three subscription programmes each season showcasing an impressive range of repertoire!

Big talent, extraordinary music and a world-class training programme – the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra is proving that the future of orchestral music is in very capable hands. Founded in 1981 by the San Francisco Symphony, the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra (SFSYO) brings more than 100 talented musicians aged 12–21 from across the Bay Area. 

With tours of Europe and Asia and performances in concert halls including Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, Vienna’s Musikverein and the Berlin Philharmonie, the orchestra has built an impressive reputation on the world stage. At its heart is a commitment to nurturing young talent through a tuition-free training programme, offering regular coaching from San Francisco Symphony musicians.
