San Francisco Symphony - Prokofiev Romeo And Juliet

One of the greatest 20th Century ballets
Why see San Francisco Symphony - Prokofiev Romeo And Juliet?
Star Crossed Lovers
Sergei Prokofiev's ballet take on Shakespeare's classic tale of star crossed lovers, Romeo and Juliet, is a work of true passion, in which the music conveys all of the heartfelt emotion that Shakespeare's original brings us. San Francisco Symphony Orchestra brings this classic to the concert hall, conducted by Marie Jacquot, as the star attraction on a program full of wonder. Violinist Sayaka Shoji joins to perform Resphigi's Concerto Gregoriano, and the first ever San Francisco performance of Augusta Holmes' Greek myth-inspired Andromade round off the program.
Timeless Love
First premiered in full 1938 in Czechoslovakia, Prokofiev's Shakespearean-inspired work received a number of revisions before its Soviet premiere in Leningrad two years later, leaving us with the version we know today. One of the most gorgeous ballet scores of the 20th century, its most famous piece is "Dance of the Knights", which captures the dramatic tension of the Shakespearean feud with driving orchestration.
