The breathtaking sounds of organ and orchestra
Written in honor of his dear friend Franz Liszt, Camille Saint-Sans' magnificent third symphony, his "Organ Symphony", comes to the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra with organist Oliver Latry, under the baton of Stephane Deneve. The sprawling work is the pinnacle of Saint-Saens' ouevre, capturing the essence of the Romantic era in all its splendor. The thrilling use of the organ in this composition creates one of the most exhilarating organ performances an audience can possibly witness, any time it is played live.
Latry will also provide his mastery of the organ on Francis Poulenc's Organ Concerto, with the orchestra also performing the San Francisco premiere of Guillame Connesson's Flammenschrift. A marvellous showcase of the wide-ranging power of classical music.
