Join the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra and two SF debutants in the form of Italian conductor Daniele Rustioni and cellist Daniel Muller-Schott of Germany, for a rousing concert performance of Dvorak's magnificent Cello Concerto and Johannes Brahms' marvelous second symphony! Rustioni brings a wealth of experience conducting orchestras and operas all over the world, including the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, Opera National de Lyon, City of Birmingham Symphony and The Met Opera in New York.
Dvorak's final solo concerto, the Cello Concerto in B minor, was originally composed in 1894 for his close friend, cellist Hanus Wihan. Since its premiere it has been lauded by many critics it as one of the greatest of all cello concertos, with many considering it the finest concerto of its type ever written. Brahms' Second, a true jewel in the Romantic orchestral canon, was composed in beautiful Austria in 1877, with the surroundings clearly evidenced in the playfulness of the piece. The range of atmospheres across the four movements jump between melodies reminiscent of joyous folk dances, hauntingly beautiful love pieces or triumphant climaxes, all leading towards a rich and sophisticated masterpiece which is rightly beloved in the world of classical music
