Urinetown: The Musical

"The Spend-a-Penny Opera that's a welcome relief."

Why see Urinetown: The Musical?
Laugh until you burst!
A dystopian musical satire that literally takes the p*ss. Urinetown was the sleeper hit show of New York's International Fringe Festival in the early 2000s, before exploding onto Broadway in 2001, winning three Tonys Awards in the process! Running for three years, it also moved to London's West End, treating widespread new audiences to new original songs and characters, that have since become part of the theater repertory. This new production is a Berkeley Playhouse premiere, that will make you laugh until you burst (probably)!
In the bleak reality of Urinetown, everything is in moderation. A drought has led to a tax on peeing, all, ahem... motions have to be carried out in heavily guarded public lavatories. If you can't pay, you cant go. Those who choose to use the street are arrested and sent to the titular Urinetown, a horrific destination from which no one ever returns. At the heart of the story is the dashing every man Bobby Strong, who rallies against the government, and ultimately, the evil corporations pulling the strings.
