Experience Lin-Manuel Miranda's First Ever Musical
Before Hamilton made Lin-Manuel Miranda a pop culture phenomenon in his own right, the creative tour-de-force honed his trademark musical theatre style with In The Heights. The bouyant musical's free-style rap and salsa-infused score, paired with a book by Pulitzer Prize winner Quiara Alegria Hudes, garnered a Grammy and four Tony Awards during its critically acclaimed run on Broadway in 2008. Don't miss its exciting local revival as part of Oakland's sizzling Woodminster Summer Musical program!
Miranda originated the role of central character and narrator Usnavi, a resident of the vibrant Hispanic-American neighbourhood Washington Heights. His bodega serves a colorful cast of characters, including Vanessa, Usnavi's fiery love interest, Nina Rosario, the first in the barrio to go to college, and Usnavi's dear abuela Claudia, grandmother to all in the community. Together they juggle dreams, hopes and aspirations with the struggles of poverty, identity and self-realisation.
