Unique Contemporary Ballet in San Francisco!
In February San Francisco Ballet presents Classical (Re)Vision, a unique collection of contemporary ballet pieces created specifically for the dancers of San Francisco. The pieces range from moving works of dramatic beauty to groundbreaking shows of originality, including pieces by Liam Scarlett, Stanton Welch and Mark Morris.
Scarlett's contribution, Hummingbird, features the music of Philip Glass and was the in-demand British choreographer's first commission for SF Ballet, first performed in 2014. Stanton Welch's piece Bespoke beautifully explores the ephemeral nature of a career as a dancer, paying tribute to the commitment shown by dancers to their art. Sandpaper Ballet by Mark Morris meanwhile is a cheerful and ingenious work set to the 40s era music of Leroy Anderson, first performed in San Francisco in 1999.
