The perfect way to celebrate the musical composer's centenary

Why See San Francisco Symphony - West Side Story?

Celebrating Bernstein's 100th birthday!

In what would have been Leonard Bernstein's 100th birthday, this fantastic opportunity to relive his iconic score and movie will be one of the highlights of the season! The musical that perfectly demonstrates the passions and tensions of the American dream comes to in a specially remastered screening, with the San Francisco Symphony performing the score live on stage. This special performance will be conducted by movie composer David Newman, who scored The War of the Roses, Matilda, Bowfinger, and Heathers and Serenity.

From the first notes to the final breath, West Side Story is one of the most memorable musicals and greatest love stories of all time. Arthur Laurents' book remains as powerful, poignant and timely as ever. The score by Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim -a collection of standards that includes 'Tonight,' 'America,' 'Maria,' 'I Feel Pretty' and 'Somewhere' - is widely regarded as one of the best ever written. And the extraordinary, Tony-winning choreography by Jerome Robbins completely changed the language of Broadway dance.
