The San Francisco Symphony Orchestra are joined by conductor Thomas Wilkins and saxophonist Branford Marsalis for a program of Jazz and Rhythm and Blues, featuring classics from Duke Ellington and Leonard Bernstein, as well as San Francisco premieres of pieces by Erwin Schulhoff and John Williams.
Wilkins is principal conductor of the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra and recently retired as director of the Omaha Symphony Orchestra, though remains as director laureate. Branford Marsalis is a grammy winning saxophonist, with his 1992 album I Heard You Twice The First Time winning the award for Best Instrumental Jazz Album.
