SAN FRANCISCO SYMPHONY MARK BEETHOVEN'S 250TH BIRTHDAY
With 2020 being the 250th year since the birth of Beethoven, San Francisco Symphony are set to open the year in fine fashion with this presentation of some of the composer's earliest known work. The dramatic Piano Concerto no. 2 forms the centrepiece of the program, which also includes the West Coast premiere of Pulitzer-prize-winning composer Julia Wolfe's work Fountain Of Youth, co-commissioned by the San Francisco Symphony.
The concert features a virtuosic performance from pianist Emanuel Ax, renowned for his work with Beethoven's repertoire. The orchestra is led by Michael Tilson Thomas, San Francisco's celebrated Music Director whose resume includes a stunning 11 Grammy Awards.
