What began as a risque cabaret act from creators Stephen Trask and John Cameron Mitchell, then morphed into a 1998 off-Broadway cult hit and 2001 film before finally hitting Broadway in 2014, is now - in a different era - a piece of Americana

A San Francisco revival of the glam rock odyssey
In a blaze of glitter and rock and roll, East German trans superstar Hedwig returns to San Francisco, courtesy of this brand new production of John Cameron Mitchell's fierce Tony-winning musical from Ray of Light Theatre. Genre and gender-defying, prepare to join Hedwig and her band as she tells her story in a vibrant mix of comedy, drama, and sequins as set to one of the most raucous and unforgettable scores in musical theatre.
A bold, no-holds-barred exploration of gender identity whilst challenging the concept that rock music is separate to the art of theatre, the story follows the misadventures of the internationally ignore Hedwig, born male but victim of a botched gender reassignment surgery (leaving her with all but that 'angry inch'). During a tour of the US with her band, her tragic story of finding love and fame in all the wrong places unfolds as she converses with her audiences.
