A Night With Janis Joplin

Why see A Night With Janis Joplin?

ONE NIGHT ONLY!

After a stunning San Francisco premiere in 2017, the 'wild and joyously racous' Tony-Nominated Broadway hit is back in the city for one night only this fall! A musical journey celebrating the Queen of Rock and Roll, A Night with Janis Joplin takes you along for the ride as we discover the genesis of her unique and unforgettable sound through her encounters with seminal performers including Etta James, Odetta, Nina Simone and the late great Aretha Franklin.

The show takes the form of a Joplin concert at the peak of her fame, transporting the audience back in time with an authentic stage design of retro proportions. Throughout the course of the evening, Joplin punctuates her rousing performances of classics like 'Mercedes Benz' and 'Piece of My Heart' with biographical asides, introducing her influences. Alongside Janis (played by the incredible Tony-nominated Mary Bridget Davis), each gets a chance to wow the crowd with their own powerful performance.

Did you know?

This isn't the first time Mary Bridget Davis has stepped into Janis's shoes. She originated the role on Broadway and also starred in Love, Janis - in addition to touring in Europe with Janis Joplin's original band, Big Brother and the Holding Company!

Joplin and the woman blues stars that influenced her.

First 10 minutes started off a bit slow. Next 10 minutes were better. Next 10 minutes were great. The rest of the show was mind blowingly fantastic. The black woman blues singers were fantastic. The Joplin singer was fantastic. The sound initially started out loud, but then they got it perfectly. Eventually the audience screaming and clapping actually was much louder then the show volume. Initially the crowd was very reserved. The singers and the band brought out the conservative crowd, where everyone was singing and sort of dancing. That was amusing because many were in their 70's. Had Joblin lived she would be 76. Old hippies going crazy. It was a sight to behold. It brought people together to a simpler time. ... Read more

Totally Groovy

The Show as amazing! It was as if Janis Joplin was right there performing for us. The entire cast was talented. The Show as a joy to watch. We sang, we rocked, we danced, laughed and cried. Notwithstanding Janis Joplin's tragically sad life and premature death, the story was uplifting and positive. My husband saw Janis Joplin perform and he was in total awe of the performance, as were we all. ... Read more
