The rain in Spayyyn...

The musical that launched both the careers of Dame Julie Andrews and Audrey Hepburn this uplifting musical comedy of upward mobility, snobbery, and love is a firm favorite in theater canon. Based on George Bernard-Shaw's novel Pygmalion, Lerner and Lowe's My Fair Lady is the irresistible rags-to-riches story of a poor flower seller who is plucked from her corner in Covent Garden by a haughty professor who wishes to win a bet - he can raise anyone to high society, just by teaching them to talk the talk. Directed by Bill English and with music direction from Dave Dobrusky, don't miss this loverly musical as it closes the San Francisco's 2024/25 season in the summer of 2025.

What is the story?

For stalwart Professor Henry Higgins, a person's voice is of the utmost importance. A keen proponent of phonetics, he believes that with the right accent and tone of speech, anything is achievable. To prove his point, he wagers a friend that he can teach cockney flower girl Eliza Doolittle to speak 'properly', and then present her as an upper-class lady in society. So the pair's lessons begin, but little does Henry Higgins know, that their time together will change him just as much as it does her...

Regarded as one of the greatest musicals of all time, this jubilant show features the songs 'Wouldn't it be Loverly', 'I Could Have Danced All Night', and 'The Rain in Spain'. It premiered on Broadway in 1956, with Andrews in the role of Eliza, and won six Tony Awards.
