A STUNNING AND BEAUTIFULLY UNDERSTATED WORK OF ART
Sting's THE LAST SHIP definitely needs pre-show research. This is not a typical Broadway musical with flashy dance numbers, incredible costumes and catchy music. It is, instead, a thoughtful, musical story about the last days of a vibrant ship-building town where Sting grew up. Complete with 'Geordie' accents of the region, the music and the dialogue have a certain 'lilt' to them. Sting's vocal flexibility is evident in his wide range from baritone into his head-tone/falsetto. His backup singers were spot-on in their intonation and harmony work with Sting. This production didn't need a massive ship set piece; the clever staging and lighting of the ship's image looming over the performers was a quiet but magnificent reminder of what was to be The Last Ship. This was a memorable production with lasting and personal impact.
Fabulous
Loved every minute. The plot the music the talent of the cast. The sets were incredible. Not to be missed.
STANDING OVATION WELL DESERVED!
What a treat to watch something that doesn't feel that it has been written to formula. The ensemble were fantastic and brought so much to the wonderful music. The production is beautiful, moving and uplifting all in one breath.
Really good musical!
I really enjoyed this musical, it being my first musical i've seen on any broadway type stage it was amazing! I laughed and I cried. The effects and set were amazing as well as the singing. Though the accents made it sort of hard to understand some of the spoken lines. I recommend seeing this show if possible!
The last ship
I would highly recommend The Last Ship to anyone who enjoys theatre. Extremely talented and professional cast with excellent singing voices. The sets were well done and made good use of new technology while maintaining the integrity of the production. Very enjoyable .... my actual rating would be 4.5 - but it was not an option on this review site which only allows whole numbers. Also, the dialogue was a bit challenging to understand at times - as a result of the accents.
Sting & The Last Ship
Went to see this on Saturday as part of our season passes with my family. The story was good and the music and singing even better. My husband and daughter said it is in their top 3 for musicals, Hamilton #1, Come From Away #2 and this is #3. We see a lot of plays & I do agree with them. I think this is a historical story as well. The singing and acting is exceptional. Its about love, loss and new beginnings. It's inspirational. See it for yourself and decide.
