San Francisco Ballet's 83rd Season continues with works from George Balanchine, Christopher Wheeldon and an upcoming world premiere from Liam Scarlett.

Set to the prickly, frentic score by Ligeti, Wheeldon urges his dancers to 'break the code' of the music using movement, richly layerd, this neo-classical work moves through the old world and into the new one with with wistful profundity.

Part of Balanchine's abstract Jewels trilogy, Rubies is a humorous and passionate tribute to Stravinsky, his life long friend and muse. Sumptuous costume and athletic movement contribute to this jazz infused piece that displays the talents of the great man himself.
