When the moon is in the seventh house...
Bay Area Musicals present their production of the iconic and groundbreaking musical that defined a generation. Birthed out of the country's counter-culture movement, Hair was a fearless exploration of sexuality, freedom and drugs that was pioneering in its use of a rock music score. The plot centers on a group of free-thinkers in a 1960's hippie commune as they fight the draft for the Vietnam war and seek to carve out their own unique path through life.
Written by James Rado and Gerome Ragni, the show first hit the Broadway stage in 1968, and has gone on to become an absolute classic of American musical theater after an initially shocking start. Several of its numbers, including 'I Got Life' and 'Age of Aquarius' have transcended their musical roots to become pop standards in their own right, as well as becoming strongly associated with the anti-Vietnam effort.
