A World Premiere
The utterly magical story of Amelie comes to the stage in 2015, in a sparkling new musical version. Directed by Tony winner Pam McKinnon (Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?), the world premiere plays Berkeley Repertory Theatre this August, with a view to a Broadway transfer next year. Craig Lucas (Prelude to a Kiss) has adapted the beguiling romance for the stage, while Daniel Messe (of the band Helm) provides the score and Nathan Tysen supplies the lyrics.
Directed by revered French auteur Jean-Pierre Jeunet, Amelie captivated cinema audiences worldwide upon its release in 2001, going on to garner five Oscar nominations and make a household name of Audrey Tatou. Its story revolves around the crushingly shy Parisian waitress Amelie Poulain, who makes it her mission to bring happiness to those her around by secretly arranging little moments of pleasure in their lives.
