San Francisco Opera presents this adapted production of Cao Xueqin's epic novel charting the rise and fall of the Jia Clan in at the time of the Qing Dynasty. The detailed connections and characters are brought to life in this lushly lyrical work from the iconic American playwright and librettist David Henry Hwang and Bright Sheng.

Explore lust, love and political intrigue. The noble Jia family are trapped in a vine of debt, but they may have found their way out when a young, beautiful and wealthy woman comes into their lives. The only problem is, she's not the woman of Bao Yu's dreams. Will he marry for the sake of his family, or will he choose to follow his heart?
