Why See San Francisco Opera - Die Walkure?

Like father like daughter

San Francisco Opera's exploration of Wagner's epic fantasy as directed by Francesca Zambello continues with the bloody and extraordinary Die Walkure, which includes the world famous 'Ride of the Valkeryies', a triumphant anthem that'll no doubt leave you breathless.

Loosely based on Norse mythology with a healthy dose of European folklore, discover a world of Gods, men, and monsters, romance, revenge, adventure and more, brought to life one man's stunning vision.

THE VALKYRIE

As Wontan desperately seeks a way out of his curse, his children run into trouble. Siegmund, his half mortal and innocent son finds himself battling his nemesis Hunding, after falling for his wife Sieglinde who is, unbeknownst to either of them, his twin sister. Whilst the fight continues on earth, the Gods look down. Wotan beseeches Brunnhilde, his Valkyerie daughter, a reaper of heroes, to protect his son. But his wife, Fricka, the protector of Wedlock is angered by the adultery and incest he has committed and bids Brunnhilde to make sure he dies. Torn between compassion and duty, Brunnhilde awaits a terrible fate...
