Why See San Francisco Ballet - Bright Fast Cool Blue?

The blue tutus of Balanchine's milestone ballet Serenade lead this mixed program that further embodies its name with the fresh and athletic The Chairman Dances as specially created for the company by Benjamin Millepied and the thrilling adventure of Justin Peck's Rodeo.

PROGRAM

Serenade
Choreographed by George Balanchine
Music by Tchaikovsky
So famous that the blue costumes of this landmark ballet led to a crater on Mercury being named after the illustrious Balanchine, this wonderful work includes allusions both to Giselle and Georgian folk dances.

The Chairman Dances
Choreographed by Benjamin Millepied
Music by John Adams
With a score taken from John Adams' opera Nixon in China, this propulsive work from Benjamin Millepied premiered in January 2017 after being created specifically for the company's season opening gala.

Rodeo: Four Dance Episodes
Choreographed by Justin Peck
Music by Aaron Copland
Aaron Copland's expansive and quintessential slice of Americana is adapted by Peck into a charming ballet that sees one ballerina courted by 15 male dancers in a fun, fresh experience.
