CORONAVIRUS: Latest updates here.
The San Francisco Playhouse returns with the 2021/22 season, their most important year yet. With a mixture of classic theatre, exciting world premieres, and a stupendous musical finale, it's gearing up to be another unforgettable season from the esteemed company. The penultimate production, from Tony Award (In The Heights) and Pultizer Prize winner Quiara Alegria Hudes, is this drama of addiction, family, and redemption.
What is the story?
Online, we can be whomever we want to be, and in a secretive chat group, Odessa is leading a recovery-based discussion forum. However in real life, her family life is falling apart at the seams, and her three other online friends are all suffering serious setbacks. Will their strong bond survive one of the members talking about his traumatic war experiences, and will they be able to rally around to help?
The support group is a place of jokes, gentle ribbing, and a way to bond with each other; however when Iraq War veteran Elliot shares a shocking tragedy with them in their safe space, everything changes. A fearless play that challenges notions of what strength and family truly mean, this story asks us to examine what truly makes a supportive community.
Opening night: 16 March 2022
