POOR, POOR ROME : IT'S NO HOLIDAY
Buy an airline ticket if you want to see Rome, because this poorly concived show is really NO HOLIDAY...So much has developed in the American musical theater in the last ten [or more] years that this dated show seems out of date [even as a musical from the 50's when the movie came out]. It's hard to believe that theater professionals in 2017 would try to produce such a dated show. Perhaps their looking for a tax loss. It shows a certain lack of awairness of local theater goers that this was produced for a San Francisco theatergoer....

THERE IS NO HOLIDAY IN ROME !
As a season ticket holder I was present at the opening night of Roman Holiday at the Golden Gate..Sorry to say, but I was more than ready to leave at intermission, but my date wanted to stay, "It's bound to improve in the second act"...After the second act she said "Sorry, we should have stayed home and watched the end of Dancing With The Stars"....What a total let-down this was...Well done sets & costumes, but that was about it..No sparks between the leads & while they have good voices, the Porter songs are forced into the plot. The whole show feels totally dated [& not in a good way]..This show WILL NEVER OPEN ON BROADWAY !!! Save your money or if you subscribe, give your tickets to a friend [or better yet a non-friend] who's never been to the theater..at least it's 'live' & they might even enjoy it ???
