OKLAHOMA

So disappointing, actors walking…poorly through roles, little emotion, lacked chemistry. Was prepared for unconventional set design but this was ridiculous. Dream/dance sequence boring, rather endless. Kept feeling I was at an amateurish high school production, actually have been at much better high school productions. Casting seemed like an overboard attempt to be “woke” or politically correct or whatever the going catch phrase is. Truly a mystery how this ever received a Tony, apparently standards for Tony’s less than I thought. Very dissatisfied….knew I was going to see something different but not something totally uninspired. And darkened theater scenes! Truly awful! Sorry to be without any praise or encouragement….I wonder how it ever was produced. A discredit to your audiences.

DISGRACE

This production twists the fun songs and dancing of Oklahoma into a dark, disturbing, horrific performance. I hated it so much I felt sick. It all was bad, but the most awful part of all was changing out a knife fight into a downright murder by handgun. As if Chicago doesn't see enough of that. Just awful.

WORST EVER OKLAHOMA

I am a longtime Broadway in Chicago holder, and have sat through many excellent plays over the years. This version of Oklahoma is one of the worst productions I have ever seen through all of the series I have attended. The scenery, which could have been beautiful was minimal and what little there was, dull and boring . The cast was hard to hear except when a microphone was used, and hard to understand. Dialogue was lethargic. The only special effects were in the really dreadful dream scene, with extreme closeups of the dancer, which made no sense at all. The dance was worse than a high school production, and was long and excruciating. The dance/dream scene was at the beginning of the second half, and by that time many attendees had left. The ending had blood all over the bride and groom but not the victim. With all the negative reviews in other cities, this should have been cancelled for the Chicago audience. Our time and money were stolen. We all deserve much better.

HORRIBLE AND UNEXPECTED

Boring and slow to start, stayed boring throughout. Should have left at intermission. And what the heck was that routing at the start of intermission? Don’t waste your money! But since these shows are grouped in with others, people won’t know how bad it is until they get there.

WORST THING TO HAPPEN TO THEATRE SINCE JOHN WILKES BOOTH

The result of a director trying to show what a cutting edge auteur he is at the expense of his actors and the audience. Very static with little movement. Actors forced to sit on stage despite not coming in for pages of dialogue. Some scenes in complete darkness switching to a Blair Witch overlay. The big finale of hope with romantic leads covered in blood like Carrie’s prom. Absolutely awful.

TERRIBLE. SAVE YOUR MONEY

What a butchered version of a classic. The cast had a couple of stronger members but nothing gelled. The cast appeared more bored than the audience. I saw many people leave the theater early. The set design was very underwhelming, looks like they borrowed the furniture from a high school cafeteria. Awkward moment when a stage hand had to walk on the live stage to remove a prop, maybe a cast member forgot to strike it when leaving? Save your money and learn from my mistake. What a waste!!!!!!

OKLAHOMA 2.0

So sad to have spent any money on this, let alone premium seats. Not sure what they were going for, but they seemed to try to smash 1000 ideas into a 10 idea platform and, truly, it did not come out well. My friend said he didn't "dislike" it, but i truly hated it. we left at intermission. Agree with many of the others, just no chemistry. You couldn't relate to or like anyone. Some really nice performances, but they were totally one-off and would be better placed somewhere else. Wasted money and wasted afternoon.
