CHEAP BAIT AND SWITCH

Broadway should be better than participating in this absolute scam of a production. You want to attack a culture or people you think are below you, write your own script and music. But don’t take someone else’s art and perform a revisionist rewrite with all of your hateful biases taking the stage away from the performers. Either they bought into this crap of a rewrite or they cannot act or sing because they were boring, uninspiring and hard to watch. For Broadway to participate in this shameful scam in scheduling this act is so troubling being a season ticket holder for over 15 years. I took my 86 year old mom for her birthday and I was embarrassed. I walked out to the hall during the abhorrent dance scene that started the 2nd half and talked to patrons who felt the same way. This is NOT Oklahoma. Too bad the director and Broadway do not have the integrity to be honest with this fiasco and let their customers know that they were not seeing the show that they thought they were.

WORST SHOW EVER

I hated this show! The ballet/contemporary dance was terrible. (Would have gotten a 4 from Len on DWTS.) Sean Grandillo was miscast in the role of Curly. No emotional connection Broadway in Chicago should not have included this adaptation of Oklahoma in the subscriber package. No chemistry between Laury and Curly. Sequences told in dark with only voice did not fit in this show. On Sunday night the final blood bath sprayed their faces, running into Curly's eyes. I would have expected this type of experimental production at the Goodman, but not Broadway in Chicago.

WORST OKLAHOMA EVER

None of the actors or singers looked like they wanted to be on stage. Boring set and also lack of good dancing and great singing. Not available in Chicago for this Oklahoma! Awful we left in the middle. Great seats terrible performance!

DECONSTRUCTED IS A TIRE TROPE

Yet another existing work of art “improved” through a nihilist re-interpretation. We’ll see which version stands the test of time. “Deconstruction” of existing works is becoming a tired trope. Definitely your thing if you like seeing life as a helpless journey through a bleak, cruel world. If not, skip it.

DO NOT GO SEE THIS

Save yourself the time and money. This was the worst and most confusing show I have ever seen in my life. Embarrassing to Broadway and theater in general. Trust all of the reviews and go do literally anything than see this. Unbelievably horrible.

YUCK

It was rough. The only person I was rooting for was the traveling salesman. I was hopeful that he would get away from all of them. They all seemed bored or angry except Ado Annie, but she was hard to understand. Rough night at the theater.

BUT, THE EMPEROR HAS NO CLOTHES

Oklahoma! is one of the great pieces of musical theater but is due for an update for the 2020s audience. Unfortunately, this show is not the needed revival rather it appears to have been created by an individual who actually loathes the original play. The performance on January 18th was a long slog for both the audience and seemingly the cast as well. There is no chemistry between the actors. The songs are atonal and whiny. The actress who played Laurey seems bored out of her mind. There were guffaws during the Dream Ballet. Guffaws!!! I do not claim to be an expert in the ways of theater but I'm pretty sure guffaws were not what the show's creator was going for. The award for performing in a different play than all the other cast mates goes to Sis. And thank goodness she did. Sis's portrayal of Ado Annie was great fun and her Nina Simone-esque "I Cain't Say No" was the highlight. The supposed shock ending was not as there was no emotional connection to the characters.
