YIKES!

Unbelievably bad. You've been warned. Saw this last night in Chicago with my daughter and her boyfriend. We left at intermission after enduring this horrible show. Glad we got the cheap seats, at least.

WAIT, WHAT?

Oklahoma has long been one of my top 3 musicals, so my husband surprised me at Christmas with tickets. He'd never seen it, but when we got off the elevators and I went for a flyer, immediately my hackles went up. "Retelling?" Why on earth would you retell Oklahoma? What's the point! But we were there already, so we went. To say I was shocked is the understatement of the year. Pitch dark, whispered creeper voices? Rock suicide ballads? A dancer scooting her butt--literally--across the stage? No costumes? Gun fire in the dark? Belt-buckle and slobbering kiss sounds in total blackness? Blood-splatter? Soulless line delivery? I mean, I had to laugh, but I couldn't because the theater was so deathly quiet it, my balcony laughter would have echoed on stage! People didn't even stay to applaud the actors. It was grotesque, and I felt horribly for grandparents who might have brought their grandchildren. I had to promise my husband that wasn't Oklahoma we saw together. So, so, so bad.

ZERO STARS-AWFUL

Do not waste your money! 1/2 the audience walked out at intermission. I wish I would have also. I was expecting to see “Oklahoma” going in so I was very shocked and unprepared by the production. I am open minded, but this didn’t work for me even after I got over the shock. This is “wokelahoma”. Don’t need to be preached to by the East coast intellectual set! Dark, dreary, depressing…Staccato monotone dialog. Stupid laughing. Modern dance sequence that didn’t fit at all. Totally inappropriate casting. Staging that was sparse and boring (at least the band was good). There was nothing positive for me in this production.

WORST LIVE THEATER EXPERIENCE IN 50 YEARS

Terrible does not describe this show. I wish I could rate this show with less than 1 star. The first act was bad, but the second act was worse. The dancing and extremely loud music at the beginning of the second act was horrible and without purpose!!!! The lack of staging made the show look like something put on by a disadvantaged high school. I am seriously considering future Broadway In Chicago subscriptions. This is by far my worst theater experience in over 50 years of attending performances.

OKLAHOMA? DON'T GO

I took my wife for her bday. Sorry Started with people sitting at picnic tables looking bored thru 1st song. The characters (except for leading lady) were not believable or interesting. The 2nd worst part was when they turn off all the lights and instead of seeing a play, you listened to it. The worst was when they then put a camera in the actors face and showed him singing or talking from appx a foot away and showed it on the stage rear wall. The 2nd half began with a woman in a white sweatshirt and what looked like a diaper, moved around the stage in fog while an electric guitar wails and shreds to a deafening rendition of Surry. The music throughout was often louder than the singers. The confrontation between Curly and Judd, Judd gives Curly a gun for a wedding present and then gets shot and killed. Both Curly and Lauri get covered in blood on their white wedding clothes. The cast, including a "dead" Judd all sing Oklahoma while Lauri has a break down. Conclusion JUST DON'T GO!

NOT MY CUP OF TEA

I get the issues are compelling and sad in our present environment. These are important issues but please, I go to broadway to escape a bit from the violence and horror we are facing in our current world, not to pay 400 for tickets to see this kind of show. Just was caught off guard and was not pleased. Call it something else but don’t take a classic like this and degrade it. I felt bad for the family next me with two young children exposed to the blood and violence. I don’t think the parents expects this either.

NOT OKLAHOMA

This was very disappointing my daughter said “ I have never seen Oklahoma on stage” So I purchased tickets. At intermission I told her “You have still not seen Oklahoma. “ the singing was poor the choreography was unattractive. Every reason I go to see a musical was missing: orchestra ,costumes, dancing and singing chorus. All were missing. Why ruin an icon.?
