A THRILL TO GET SO CLOSE

While clearly not theven voice of 30 years ago, the performance and performing were superb. A TREASURE OF OUR TIME IS GREAT TO SEE.

THE REAL DEAL

What a delicious evening! Bernadette Peters had the audience eating out of her hand. Standing ovations I the middle of the performance. She is the finest Sondheim interpreter on earth. Couldn’t love her more- a true artist.

BROADWAY BABY SOARS!!!

An evening with Rodgers & Hammerstein, Sondheim , Jerry Herman with a dash of Peggy Lee...all interpreted by that red headed belter and diva who sound is unique. Like Sinatra whose vocal phrasing is profound, she is the female compliment. I've heard those ballads and showstoppers countless of times..but her renditions sounded fresh with nuances that were more meaningful this time around. The stringed orchestra was superb & the extra treat of CUBBY (ex-mouseketeer) on drums cemented the nostalgic evening. BRAVO!!!

OK ~ BUT CERTAINLY NOT GREAT

I have seen Bernadette Peters both on Broadway (Gypsy 2003) and solo on Stage (2007 at Santa Fe Opera). The performance at the SF Symphony had serious problems. It was primarily the use of amplification equipment that distorts. In last night's performance Bernadette mentioned Carol Channing from the 1964 Broadway production of Hello Dolly. I too saw that production, and what was dramatically different was Carol's booming voice was natural and pure because it was not fed through electronic amplification, while Bernadette's voice was clipped and distorted. My second issue was Bernadette seemed to be off key throughout many songs. I hope this is an anomaly rather than a symptom of age. Hope for the best.

WRONG MUSIC CHOICES

Bernadette Peters looks amazing and still sings beautifully. However the lack of diversity in her song choices and the obscurity of some created a show lacking energy and difficult to embrace
