Experience the south pacific in 'Frisco!
Part of the Woodminster Amphitheatre summer musicals season comes their production of the hit 1949 Rodgers and Hammerstein show, that continues to win our hearts, nearly 70 years after it first premiered. Their third collaboration after Carousel and Oklahoma, the legendary composers created South Pacific to promote a strong anti-racism message, as well as to dispel myths of the "exotic native". The show follows the lives of a group of U.S. military men, nurses and the residents of the Polynesian island they occupy during World War II, focusing on two unlikely couples who find love.
What is it about?
Nurse Nellie Forbush is 'In Love With a Wonderful Guy', a French plantation owner, with small children from a previous marriage. Clean-cut Lt. Cable has fallen hard for local matriarch and possible witch, Bloody Mary's daughter Liat. And the seabees, sailors and marines will tell you that there is 'Nothing Like a Dame'. The show's gorgeous score also includes 'Cockeyed Optimist', 'I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Out of My Hair', 'Some Enchanted Evening', 'Younger Than Springtime', 'Honey Bun' and 'This Nearly Was Mine'.
