Poe's Gothic tale comes to life...twice!
Prepare to enter the chilling House of Usher twice in this chilling double bill from San Francisco Opera. Featuring Usher House by Gordon Getty and La Chute de la Maison Usher by Claude Debussy, delve into this supernatural horror, containing ancestral curses, spooks and scares as the Usher twins fall deep into despair and macabre madness in Poe's suspenseful gothic tale.
These two very distinct versions of the story conjure an evocative world of agitation and uneasiness, with intense video productions creating a fearful atmosphere, as Brian Mulligan stars as the troubled Roderick Usher, conducted by Lawrence Foster. As seen by the nameless Doctor, Roderick's reality begins to fall apart as his sister Madeline lies in a deathlike trance in the tomb below his room. As tensions heighten, the entire house seems alive around him, and intent on some kind of revenge, buliding to a terrifying fianale!
