BAM are proud to present this delightful, heart-warming and universally accessible story that still remains one of the most socially relevant musicals since premiering on Broadway in 1983.
Based on the French farce written in 1973, the original production of La Cage Aux Folles took Broadway by storm, going on to win a total of 6 Tony Awards. Since then it has spawned numerous Hollywood film adaptations and theatre revivals ensuring that new generations of fans fall in love with it time and time again. Harvey Fierstein's brilliantly written book and Jerry Herman's perfectly pitched music culminates in a fiercely original and inventive story about the tribulations of an unorthodox family - it has classic written all over it!
All is in turmoil at La Cage Aux Foiles when owner Georges and his long term love Albin, the star of the club's famous drag show, face the biggest challenge of their 20-year relationship. Georges' biological son has declared that they are to meet his fiance's ultra conservative parents. In an effort to appease their son, Albin is to take on a macho persona but chaos ensues when Albin takes on an all together different guise...
